WREN – An accident Tuesday morning claimed the life of a 72-year-old Greenwood Springs man who was trying to retrieve his boat on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway.
According to Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley, Donald Lee Hulsey tried to retrieve his boat after it drifted away from a boat ramp at the end of Willow Point Lane, off of Coontail Road. He was there to fish.
“The call came in at 8:44 a.m., and he was recovered at 9:45,” said Gurley, adding Hulsey’s previous medical conditions probably played a role in his death.
The cause of death is drowning, according to Gurley.
The Aberdeen Fire Department, Monroe County Volunteer Search and Rescue, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks responded to the call.
There will be no autopsy, according to Gurley. Otts Funeral Home in Sulligent, Alabama is in charge of arrangements.
