SALTILLO - The Hickory Flat cross country team had a great showing last Saturday, Sept. 21 at the Saltillo Invitational.
The boys team had just four runners, one shy of qualifying for a team score but the four they had made waves on the trail in the 1A-3A race. Wesley Green once again led the pack with his fourth place finish with a time of 17:47.10. Sophomore Alex Tatum landed in 16th with his time of 18:29.50. Logan King crossed the line at 20:26.20, which was good enough for 39th. Ayden Gossett finished 45th out of the 114 runners with a time of 20:55.20.
The Lady Rebels totaled 141 points for a fifth place team finish out of 11 competing teams. Leading the charge was eighth grader Morgan Green. Green ran a time of 21:47.00 for her 10th place finish. Freshman Madison Weeks crossed the line at 24:58.30 for 29th place. Closely behind Weeks was teammate Ally Gresham in 30th with her time of 25:03.40. Junior Kylie Gray landed in 33rd with a time of 25:21.10 and freshman Abby Tatum rounded out the scoring with her 60th place finish out of 102 runners.
Delayni Odom finished 67th, Abby Coker landed in 72nd and Caitlyn McDaniel ended in 74th.
Hickory Flat returns to action this Saturday at the Shelby Farms Park in Memphis, Tennessee. They will compete in the Frank Horton Invitational hosted by Christian Brothers High School (TN). The race will take place under the lights with the girls race beginning at 7 p.m. with the boys following at 7:30 p.m.
