MYRTLE - The Hickory Flat Lady Rebels found themselves in familiar territory last Friday night as the hoisted the Div. 2-1A Tournament championship trophy after a 72-55 win over West Union.
The win gave Hickory Flat their second-consecutive Div. 2-1A title.
The Lady Rebels had a phenomenal shooting performance against the Lady Eagles, shooting 57 percent from the field lead by R'Daztiny Harris and Laney Teel.
Harris poured in 31 points, going 14-20 from the field and came away with a whopping eight steals. Teel provided her services behind the three-point line, hitting 3-7 to go with her 19 points.
Hickory Flat's Hannah Mason also scored 11 and dished out four assists.
After last season's tournament championship, the Lady Rebels were upset by No. 4 seed Simmons. But this season, Hickory Flat was able to right their wrong with a dominant performance in Monday night's first round Class 1A Girls State Playoffs.
Hickory Flat wiped out Biggersville 75-24. Again, the Lady Rebels put three scorers in double figures, this time led by senior Marrie Simmons, who scored a game-high 21. Harris followed Simmons with 20 points of her own and notched 10 rebounds for the double-double. Sophomore Corlilla Burnside pitched in 12 points in the win blowout victory.
With the win over the Lady Lions, Hickory Flat will host Tremont this Friday at 7 p.m.
The Lady Eagles are the No. 2 seed out of Div. 4-1A and boast a 22-7 record. Hickory Flat is 22-9 on the season.
