HOULKA – Houlka Attendance Center senior, Deshun Berry signed to play basketball with the Itawamba Community College Indians on Friday, Nov. 1.

The signing took place in the gym at Houlka and several of Berry’s family members were in attendance, along with his teammates on the basketball team and the girls’ basketball team.

Houka’s head basketball coach, Seth Burt was very proud for Berry as well as excited about his prospects.

“I could not be more proud for Deshun and his family,” said Burt. “He is a tremendously talented player, but he’s an even better person. Coach Pate runs a great program at ICC and we are just thrilled for Deshun to go be a part of it.”

Berry signed a full ride scholarship with ICC, and he is very thankful for the opportunity.

“It’s a blessing,” said Berry. “I’ve been working hard all of my life, working for a scholarship, and I was blessed to get one from ICC, and a full ride none the less.”

He is not letting this get in the way of his playing for Houlka now though.

“From here, I’m just focused on getting this [championship] ring, and the finishing high school,” he added. “Then I’ll go to ICC and do what I have to do, and hopefully, one day end up in the NBA.”
