ECRU -- The Houston Hilltoppers football team hit the road last Thursday to battle North Pontotoc and took a 12-point lead halfway into the fourth quarter. However, the Vikings’ Reece Kentner took over, leading North Pontotoc to victory in the game’s final minute, 38-37. He scored on a 2-yard run and tossed a 30-yard touchdown pass to Winn Naverette on fourth and 15 to earn the victory.
It was the first loss for Houston (5-1)
“They threw it downfield and got behind us,” coach Baylor Dampeer said by phone.
Sophomore Jalen Washington was a workhorse for the Hilltoppers, scoring three touchdowns and carrying the ball 13 times for 158 yards.
Quarterback Red Parker completed nine of 14 passes for 102 yards. He added 18 yards on the ground. EJ Stovall (3 for 63), Kelby Henry (1 for 9) and Chris Parker (5 for 30) caught passes for Houston.
Houston led 30-12 at halftime.
Kentner accounted for five touchdowns in the win.
The Hilltoppers continue division play at Pontotoc on Friday.
