Kossuth junior running back Jaley Adams, who rushed for a state-record 543 yards and eight touchdowns last week against Corinth, saw limited action Friday in the Aggies’ 54-0 shutout of Division 1-3A foe New Site.
Adams rushed for 159 yards on five carries and scored three touchdowns on runs of 67, 31 and 25 yards in the first half. His total gives him 1,432 yards, which is second in the state.
Two weeks ago, Adams rushed for a then school-record 303 yards and six TDs against Nettleton.
Kossuth improved to 6-1 overall and to 1-0 in the division. New Site is now 0-7, 0-1.
Elijah Potts had a 71-yard pass to Dusty Roberts for an Aggies’ score. Four other players scored for Kossuth: Hunter Brooks 4-yard run, Reed Mitchell 2-yard run, Ty Cooper 21-yard run and Austin Hitts 61-yard run.
Kossuth returns to division play next week, hosting Belmont.
Oxford 50, Saltillo 7: Chargers quarterback Jack Abraham completed 17 of 20 passes for 260 yards and five touchdowns, including three scoring strikes to DK Metcalf, in a Division 1-5A game.
For Oxford (4-2, 2-0), Metcalf’s TD receptions covered 49, 24 and 9 yards.
Booneville 42, Alcorn Central 0: Booneville scored all the points it would need in the first half of its Division 1-3A opener. Good thing, because the lights went out and the second half wasn’t played.
Dallas Gamble scored on runs of 68 and 15 yards for the Blue Devils. Preston Stroupe added a 65-yard TD pass to Mondarius Bell and scored on a 20-yard run.
Houston 39, Caledonia 7: Urriah Shepard scored two touchdowns in the first half and Denver McQuary returned a kickoff 74 yards for a TD to lead Houston to a win in its Division 4-4A opener.
Taylor Baskin added two TD runs for Houston (6-1, 1-0).
Benton County 26, Belmont 8: Four players scored TDs for Benton County in its 1-3A win. Richard Brooks had a 40-yard TD run for the winners (4-2, 1-0).
Peyton Reeves scored Belmont’s TD on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Baldwyn 64, Potts Camp 0: Baldwyn scored 50 points in the first half and had nine players score in its Division 1-2A opener.
Duke Upshaw scored the Bearcats (5-2, 1-0) first touchdown on a 50-yard run in the first quarter.
Eupora 29, Okolona 22: Eupora scored 15 second-half points to defeat Okolona in the Division 4-2A opener for both teams.
Victor Goldman on TD runs of 33 and 52 yards for Eupora (6-1, 1-0). Josh Ford had a punt return for a score for Okolona (2-4, 0-1).
Hatley 45, South Pontotoc 14: Sophomore running back Keyshawn Forshee had an 85-yard kickoff return in the first half to help lead Hatley to its Division 4-3A win.
The Tigers (5-2, 1-0) also got a 50-yard TD run from Forshee. Jaylon Jernigan caught a 38-yard TD pass and returned an interception 27 yards for a score for Hatley.
West Point 53, Clarksdale 16: Andre Lane scored three TDs, including one on a 38-yard scamper, to lead the Green Wave (4-2, 1-1) to a Division 1-5A win.
