HOUSTON – A 17-year-old girl is in jail and a local man is recovering from a gunshot wound to the arm after a domestic dispute escalated Tuesday night.
Houston Police Chief Billy Voyles said he is not releasing the name of the girl at this time but she is being charged as an adult with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and she is currently in the Chickasaw County Jail under no bond.
“There apparently was some kind of disturbance at McDonald's and the girl had coffee poured on her,” said Voyles. “The dispute re-ignited on West Church Street about 9 p.m. when she shot at him four times with a 9 mm pistol.”
Voyles said Lester Jakes, of Houston, was carried to Trace Regional Hospital after-hours clinic and later transported to North Mississippi Regional Medical Center in Tupelo by ambulance.
“We are still trying to sort everything out,” said Voyles. “The girl's mother was involved somehow and was with her daughter when the shots were fired.”
Voyles said Jakes had also been pepper sprayed.
Houston is not known for crimes involving guns and Voyles urged the community to call police immediately with any information about this shooting or any situation that might involve domestic violence.
