HOUSTON – The Master Gardeners of Houston chose the first winner of the Prettiest Place for this year.

Linda Franks, of 200 Lee Circle in Houston, won for her dedication to the upkeep and presentation of her yard. She was presented with a sign from the Master Gardeners to display in her yard declaring it to be a Prettiest Place winner.

“The Master Gardeners started this contest years ago in hopes of encouraging people to take pride in their yards,” said John Walden, a Master Gardener. “It also helps to keep the area looking presentable and welcoming to visitors.”

They pick winners periodically throughout the months of May to September. They were late into the process this year because of the rain as well as other obligations.

There will be more winners selected soon according to Walden.
