There are no sports for me to talk about. High schools across the state are closed at least for another week as I write this. March madness has been shuttered for this year entirely, and the NBA has postponed this season indefinitely.
VARDAMAN • The Lady Hilltoppers of Houston won both of their games during a tournament held at Vardaman. The first a 10-0 game against Vardaman and the second a 15-0 bout against West Union.
BILOXI • The Houston Hilltoppers lost a close one against the Biloxi Indians. With a final score of 8-7 the Indians were able to get up early and then stave off the Hilltoppers’ comeback in the later innings.
HOUSTON • The Lady Toppers softball team followed up a 12-1 win over Eupora on Thursday night by taking home both games in a double header against a lackluster Noxubee on Friday night by a score of 16-0 in both games.
The Houston Hilltoppers took on the Eupora Eagles on March 7. With runs only scored in the first inning for both teams, it was a match between the two teams’ pitchers. The Hilltoppers ended up winning the game with a score of 2-1.
NEW ALBANY • The Vardaman Lady Rams took on the Ingomar Lady Falcons on March 6. A fast-paced high scoring game led to a Vardaman victory, with a final score of 8-6.

HOUSTON • The Houston Lady Toppers softball fought back from a three point deficit late in the game to ultimately defeat the Hamilton Lady Tigers 8-7 in extra innings.
HOUSTON • Paige Killgore is the tall junior who stares down batters from atop the pitcher’s mound at Houston High School’s softball field. Being a varsity team member since she was just a seventh-grader, Kilgore regularly shows just how much grit and determination she has for the game of softball.
FULTON • The Houston Hilltoppers took on the North Panola Cougars at Itawamba Community college. The Hilltoppers were able to defeat the Cougars 80-69 by limiting the shooting from this very offensively driven team.

RIPLEY • The Houlka Wildcats sadly were knocked out of the playoffs by the Pine Grove Panthers last Saturday. With a close score of 66-64, the Wildcats and Panthers both settled in for a defensive heavy game.
BALDWYN • Both Okolona boys and girls were knocked out of the playoff race in the first round,falling to Baldwyn with a score of 73-63 for the boys and 55-15 for the girls.
HOUSTON • On Saturday the Lady Hilltoppers of Houston and the Lady Rams of Vardaman opened their softball season with a tournament hosted by Houston.
VARDAMAN • Vardaman boys and girls both fell short in the first round of the playoffs. With the boys falling to Ingomar in a disappointing 97-30 loss, and the girls falling to Tupelo Christian Prep by a score of 53-38.
HOUSTON • The Houston Hilltoppers Baseball team took on the Eupora Eagles at home in Houston on Monday, Feb.17. The Toppers put up a fight, but would ultimately lose by a score of 4-2.
HOUSTON • The Division Champion Lady Toppers took to their home court on Monday, Feb. 17 for the first round of the playoffs. They took on the North Panola Cougars.
Baseball season is here. College baseball started this last week and with that spring has begun. Yes I am well aware that this is still just mid-January, but baseball and softball seasons mean that it’s time to break out the shorts and ball caps.
HAMILTON • The Houlka girls were sadly eliminated in the first round of their tournament against the Okolona Chieftains. With a final score of 48-27, Okolona was able to win even though it was not a high scoring game.
HAMILTON • The Houlka Wildcats came in second place in the divisional tournament held over the course of last week. Falling only at the very end to Coffeeville, by a margin of only three points, 73-70. The Wildcats proved to be a very dominant team.
HAMILTON • The Lady Rams of Vardaman gave a valiant effort, but ultimately fell short of a divisional title on Friday night. They played two rounds in the tournament, but were not able to win the final game.

COLUMBUS • The Hebron boys played in their tournament against the Tunica Blue Devils. With a good first half showing, they sadly fell further and further behind. With a final score of 72-47, the boys sadly finished their season winless.
HOUSTON • The Houston Lady Toppers entered into the divisional tournament on Feb. 11 as a number four seed. After fighting tooth and nail for every game, they emerged Region 4 Division 3A Champions.
HOULKA • The Houlka Lady Wildcats took on the Myrtle Lady Hawks on Monday, Feb. 3 at their gym in Houlka. While the Lady Cats played a hard game, it would ultimately go to the Lady Hawks by a final of 60-22.
CALHOUN CITY • The Houston Lady Toppers took to the road against the Calhoun City Lady Wildcats. The Lady Toppers put up a good fight, however, the Lady Wildcats took the battle by a score of 55-42.
CALHOUN CITY • The Houston Hilltoppers traveled to Calhoun City to take on the Wildcats on Friday, Feb. 7. The Toppers played a hard-fought game, but ultimately the Wildcats won the game by a score of 73-60.
HOUSTON • National Signing Day was Wednesday, Feb. 5, and it saw three Houston players commit to three different schools in a joint signing ceremony.
HOULKA • The Houlka Wildcats took to the court against the Myrtle Hawks on Monday, Feb. 4. The close fought battle would ultimately belong to the Wildcats by a final score of 71-63.
HOUSTON • Houston won handedly against the Hatley Tigers on Friday Jan. 31. With a score of 92-65, Houston was obviously the better team playing. They were able to keep the ball away from the Tigers and score on each of their possessions.
