HAMILTON • The Houlka Wildcats came in second place in the divisional tournament held over the course of last week. Falling only at the very end to Coffeeville, by a margin of only three points, 73-70. The Wildcats proved to be a very dominant team.
HAMILTON • The Lady Rams of Vardaman gave a valiant effort, but ultimately fell short of a divisional title on Friday night. They played two rounds in the tournament, but were not able to win the final game.

COLUMBUS • The Hebron boys played in their tournament against the Tunica Blue Devils. With a good first half showing, they sadly fell further and further behind. With a final score of 72-47, the boys sadly finished their season winless.
HOUSTON • The Houston Lady Toppers entered into the divisional tournament on Feb. 11 as a number four seed. After fighting tooth and nail for every game, they emerged Region 4 Division 3A Champions.
HOULKA • The Houlka Lady Wildcats took on the Myrtle Lady Hawks on Monday, Feb. 3 at their gym in Houlka. While the Lady Cats played a hard game, it would ultimately go to the Lady Hawks by a final of 60-22.
CALHOUN CITY • The Houston Lady Toppers took to the road against the Calhoun City Lady Wildcats. The Lady Toppers put up a good fight, however, the Lady Wildcats took the battle by a score of 55-42.
CALHOUN CITY • The Houston Hilltoppers traveled to Calhoun City to take on the Wildcats on Friday, Feb. 7. The Toppers played a hard-fought game, but ultimately the Wildcats won the game by a score of 73-60.
HOUSTON • National Signing Day was Wednesday, Feb. 5, and it saw three Houston players commit to three different schools in a joint signing ceremony.

There are a two more games of football to be played total. One leading up to the Super Bowl, and then the actual professional championship. As a football guy you might think this makes me sad, and it does. But, what the end of football season means is the start of baseball season.
VARDAMAN – The Vardaman Rams took on Okolona Chieftans at home on Friday, Jan. 17. Okolona and Vardaman looked well paired in the first period, but then Okolona began to take a very large lead, and would ultimately go on to win 85-41.

HOUSTON – The Houston Hilltoppers basketball teams suffered a loss to the Noxubee Tigers on Friday night. The Lady Toppers lost by a score of 50-34, and the boys by a score of 62-52.
STARKVILLE • Mike Leach will take over the head coaching job at Mississippi State from Joe Moorhead. Leach comes into this great state having a career record of 139-90 and a record of 55-47 at his most recent school, Washington State University.
OKOLONA • The Okolona Chieftains took on the Houlka Wildcats in a hard fought basketball game on Thursday night. The Chieftains ended up taking the game with a final score of 89-80.
This upcoming Egg Bowl will be one of the most interesting ones to watch. Mike Leach and Lane Kiffin are two amazing football coaches that have done great things in their careers. However, the more interesting thing to watch with these two coaches is their pre and post-game interviews.
STARKVILLE • Mississippi State has fired coach Joe Moorhead after only two seasons. This comes after the loss to Louisville in the Music City bowl on New Year’s Eve.

HOUSTON – Houston offensive/defensive lineman Calvin Mcmillian will be trading one maroon jersey for another, as he signed a letter of commitment to Mississippi State University on Wednesday, Dec. 18.

OKOLONA – The Okolona Chieftains basketball team took to the court for what would turn out to be an extremely close game against the Shannon Red Raiders. The Chieftains would go on to win the game 72-69, but it was not without its battles.
BRUCE – Okolona lost their tournament game against Grenada by a score of 85-45 this past Saturday, Dec. 7. The Chieftains are currently on a four game losing streak, with their last win coming in a game last month against West Point.
HOULKA – On Wednesday Dec. 4, legendary Houlka basketball coach Jimmy Guy McDonald died at age 71. He was a fixture on the sidelines of Houlka high school basketball ever since he took the head coaching position in 1971.
