NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING ON
THE PROPOSED BUDGET AND
PROPOSED TAX LEVIES FOR THE
UPCOMING FISCAL YEAR FOR
THE CITY OF ABERDEEN
The City of Aberdeen will hold a public hearing on
its proposed budget and proposed tax levies for
the fiscal year 2020-2021 on September 23, 2020,
at 5:00 PM City Hall, at City Hall, 125 West
Commerce Street, Aberdeen, MS.
The City of Aberdeen is now operating with projected
total revenue of $5,359,885 or $2,004,736 of such
revenue is obtained through ad valorem taxes. For
the next fiscal year, the proposed budget has total
projected revenue of $5,775,849 of that amount or
$2,026,155 is proposed to be financed through a
total ad valorem tax levy.
For the next fiscal year, the City of Aberdeen plans
to keep the current ad valorem tax millage rate at
71.47 mills. This means that you will pay ad valorem
taxes on your home, automobile, tag, utilities,
business fixtures and equipment and rental property
inside the City of Aberdeen.
The proposed ad valorem tax levy for the City is
71.47 mills reflecting no change in the current rate
of 71.47 mills. The proposed ad valorem tax levy for
the Aberdeen School District is 58.33 reflecting a
2.58 mill increase in the current rate of 55.75. These
calculations are based upon assessments received
from the Monroe County Tax Assessor’s Office.
Any citizen of the City of Aberdeen is invited to
attend this public hearing on the proposed ad
valorem tax increase and budget for fiscal year
2021 and will be allowed to speak for a reasonable
amount of time and offer tangible evidence before a
vote is taken.
