Andrew McDonald, an Itawamba Agricultural High School graduate and former member of the Itawamba Community College golf team, was named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar –Athlete at the conclusion of his senior season for the Blule Mountain College’s golf team. He was one of 186 student-athletes nationwide to receive the honor.
To be nominated for the honor, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and be enrolled for two full years if a non-transfer or one full year if a transfer student.
The recognition caps a strong senior season for McDonald both on and off the course. McDonald finished 10th individually at the Southern States Athletic Conference Championship in April and was named to the SSAC All-Academic team.
Blue Mountain golf head coach Kevin Barefield had nothing but praise for McDonald.
“We’re just so proud of Andrew and all he has accomplished while at BMC,” Barefield said. “He’s a selfless individual who always puts others first and an extraordinary student-athlete. Andrew has a bright future, and again, I’m very proud he has been a part of our program.”
