What’d I eat: Steak & Shrimp with sweet potato and salad bar.

What’d I think:

For long time customers and those with Centerville Fish & Steak on your “to-try” list, don’t worry. Even though the popular restaurant was put up for sale a while back, the owners have said they will remain open, working their normal hours until the business is sold.

As expected, many have expressed concerns over the sale of their favorite fish and steak house. We were assured, that the new owners, whoever they may be, will carry on the high standards and quality Centerville is known for.

The country eatery has been a weekend destination tradition for years. Within 30 minutes of opening, the parking lot fills up with car tags representing counties all over Northeast Mississippi.

For this trip, I didn’t have to review the menu long to decide on their 6-ounce rib-eye, cooked medium with a skewer of seasoned grilled shrimp, salad, and a sweet potato.

The steak was cooked to order and seasoned perfectly, so no added sauce was needed. In fact, after speaking to the owners, their philosophy is basically the same as mine: If a steak needs sauce, something ain’t right! Now, if you just prefer sauce, that’s cool too. You do you.

The grilled shrimp was a great pairing for the steak. You can see the added spices and taste the tenderness with each bite. Plus, each skewer has enough shrimp to last the entire steak if you portion it right.

For the sides, a baked sweet potato with butter and a hint of brown sugar is my favorite companion to a good steak. Plus, Centerville’s salad bar has all my top favorites, including shredded lettuce and fresh-cut hard boiled eggs.

If you’ve ever been, I’m sure you already know the quality of what you’ll be eating; if you are planning a first-time visit, you are in for a treat! Give them a try and tell them they were recommended by Eating Out With Jeff Jones!
