The Mississippi Association of Colleges and Junior Colleges (MACJC) has named ICC head softball coach Andy Kirk its Coach of the Year, and Indians pitcher Olivia Burns its Pitcher of the Year.
The honors follow a 2019 season that saw the Itawamba Community College Indians softball team win the MACJC tournament state championship.
Kirk’s team finished 40-16-1, the second highest win total in school history. The Indians went 15-5 at home and finished the season ranked tenth in the nation. This is his second consecutive year to earn the title.
Burns had an incredible sophomore season inside the circle, finishing 27-6. Burns struck out 168 and recorded an ERA of 1.81 on her way to setting the program record for most single season wins with 27. Burns set the ICC softball career mark for most all-time wins with 46 and holds the career strikeout record, too, with 273.
