Itawamba Agricultural High School student, Gibson Jarrell, joined the small percentage of ACT test-takers to land a perfect score.
According to the most recent ACT Profile Report, of the 1,670,497 students who took the ACT in the graduating class of 2020, only 5,579 scored a perfect 36. That’s a mere .33 percent of test-takers.
In addition to his exceptional academic performance, Jarrell is also an active member of the school’s Anchor Club and Scholar’s Bowl as well as serving as Secretary of the Student Council. He took part in the Summer College program at Ole Miss and completed Trigonometry through Itawamba Community College, which has allowed him to accumulate 9 college credits as a high school Junior.
Jarrell credits his teachers at IAHS for helping to prepare him for the test.
“In English, we took practice tests and went over strategies with Coach Johnson,” said Jarrell. “Mr. Clayton and Mrs. Hebert helped prepare for the math portion.”
Jarrell told The Times that he doesn’t have any sure plans for after graduation, but he’s interested in Science and English.
