FULTON, Miss. – The ICC softball Indians rallied back and got a walk-off in extra innings of game two to complete the sweep of the Holmes Bulldogs on Tuesday.

Game 2: No. 15 Indians 7, Holmes 6 – 8 innings

After trailing 6-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth, the Indians rallied with five unanswered runs to complete the sweep of Holmes in dramatic fashion.

Joanna Vasquez (Southaven) started the bottom of the eight with an infield single and advance to second on a bunt single by Hope Harbin (Columbus) before scoring when Mattie Meine (Olive Branch) reached on an error on a sacrifice bunt to give the Indians a walk-off win.

Vasquez, Meine, Rachel Sternisha (Olive Branch), and Maggie Smithey (New Albany) each had a pair of hits as the Indians totaled 12 hits in the win.

Olivia Burns (Grenada) picked up the win after entering to pitch with one out in the top of the fifth inning. She silenced the Bulldogs’ bat by giving up one hit and striking out four in 3.2 innings of work.

Game 1: No. 15 Indians 8, Holmes 3

The Indians wasted little time to jump on the Bulldogs by scoring five runs in the bottom of the first in game one highlighted by a two-run double by Macey Cox (Troy, Tenn.) Summer Cryder (Tupelo) added her eighth home run of the season with a two-run shot in the sixth to put the game on ice.

Burns picked up the win after scattering five hits and giving up three earned runs while striking out five in six innings of work. Savannah Stamps (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) came in to close the door on the Bulldogs with a hitless and scoreless seventh inning.

Holmes fell to 8-23 overall and 4-10 inside conference play.

ICC was scheduled to play Southwest Mississippi (22-7, 9-5 MACJC) on Friday, but the game was postponed due to rain and no make-up date has been set. The Indians will host No. 1 Jones (31-4, 15-1 MACJC) for their annual Breast Cancer Awareness series in a battle for first place in the conference on Wednesday.
