TUPELO – Each year, Link Centre’s annual artist residency workshop brings a wide variety of performers, writers, singers and talent to Northeast Mississippi.

This past week has been no different, except for the numbers. The residency began as a week-long program, but since its inception it has grown, this time to three weeks and, with it, four different artists.

Thus far, artists Asia-Vinae Palmer, Asia Rainey, Marcus Montgomery and Lacey Roop have worked with the Tupelo Public School District, the Tupelo Police Athletic League, the People’s Community Church and the Haven Acres Boys and Girls Club. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Public performances have been planned for the artists, inviting guests to hear from the leading poets, as well as see the work Link Centre’s artist residency does in the area.

On Friday, a spoken word show with Roop, Palmer and Rainey will be at Aunt B’s Soul Food restaurant at 2750 S. Green St. at 7 p.m. Seating at the venue is limited.

Saturday, a community performance will be held in Link Centre’s Black Box Theatre featuring Roop, Palmer and Rainey. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. The performance will contain adult themes.

Lastly, on Saturday, Feb. 13, there will be a community spoken word performance featuring Marcus Montgomery and Asia Rainey with members of the Tupelo Police Athletic League spoken word team at the Tupelo PAL facility on Douglas Street, behind the Link Centre, at 7:30 p.m.

The artists will continue to work with TPSD, PAL, the Girl Scouts, the Boy Scouts and the Lee County Detention Center during the remainder of the three-week program. For more information about the public performances, or Link Centre’s artist residency program, call (662) 690-4011.
