TUPELO – You can get a jump on your 2011 resolutions on the last day of 2010.
Tupelo Ballet and Tupelo Symphony Orchestra will throw a Blue Jeans & Sequins New Year’s Eve Party from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Friday at the BancorpSouth Conference Center.
If you want to lose weight, it’s a chance to dance to party music by the Memphis Icebreakers.
If you want to be a more relaxed person in 2011, casual attire is welcome.
If you want to be more of a rebel next year, then come to the party in a tuxedo or a ball gown.
If you want to be a more social person, then spend some time with other revelers.
If you want to be more community-minded, then rest easy knowing your $40 ticket will support the work of the ballet and the symphony in 2011.
“We felt like Tupelo needed a nice place where they could go and celebrate the new year,” said Margaret Anne Murphey, president and executive director of TSO. “We just want people to come and have a good time.”
Tickets will include a variety of heavy hors d’oeuvres, and a cash bar will be open.
As an added bonus, the Hilton Garden Inn will offer a special $89 rate to people who attend the event, said Sharon Long, artistic director of the ballet.
“After the party, people can walk right next door to the hotel,” Long said. “They can wake up and have breakfast in the morning and not worry about driving home the night before.”
If things go as organizers hope, one of your 2011 resolutions could be to attend next year’s New Year’s Eve celebration.
“We’re excited about it,” Long said. “Maybe it will become a tradition. You never know.”
