BALDWYN • Fourth Street in Baldwyn will become Memory Lane on Sept. 21.
North Mississippi Medical Center Baldwyn Nursing Facility will host Cruising for Alzheimer’s car show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 21. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.
“It’s not your typical fundraiser,” said Lacy Taylor, business development coordinator for the nursing facility. “We have residents that are really excited about the event.”
Registration for the car show is $15 and will open at 8 a.m. on Sept. 21. Concessions, children’s activities and raffles will be available.
Sept. 21 is also World Alzheimer’s Day and people are encouraged to wear purple to show their support for individuals with the disease and their families. In Mississippi, there is an estimated 55,000 people with Alzheimer’s and 207,000 caregivers.
“I don’t think the community realizes how many people are affected by Alzheimer’s,” Taylor said.
Alzheimer’s disease is close the hearts of the nursing center staff for professional and personal reasons.
“We do take care of patients with Alzheimer’s,” Taylor said. “Several of our staff members have personal connections, too.”
More community events are planned in support of the Alzheimer’s Association. The annual Northeast Mississippi Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held Nov. 2 at Ballard Park in Tupelo. Teams can register at act.alz.org.
