AMORY - The Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center in Amory has earned a national award for the third year in a row.

The center at North Mississippi Medical Center Gilmore-Amory received the Center of Excellence Award from Healogics, the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services.

The award recognizes exceptional healing rates, high patient satisfaction rates and outstanding clinical performance.

Chronic wounds — ranging from diabetic ulcers, venous wounds, pressure sores, radiation injuries, and many others — affect an estimated 6.7 million of people in the United States. These conditions drastically diminish patients’ overall quality of life and can decrease life expectancy if left untreated. The wound epidemic is expected to worsen over the next decade due to an aging population and increasing rates of contributing diseases such as diabetes, obesity and vascular disease.
