Iuka minister appointed to Clinton]
Bishop Marshall L. "Jack" Meadors Jr. of The Mississippi Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church has appointed the Rev. Prentiss M. Gordon Jr., pastor of Iuka United Methodist Church, as the new senior minister of First United Methodist Church of Clinton.
The mid-year appointment was necessitated by the unexpected retirement of the Rev. Allen Winstead, previous senior minister of the Clinton congregation. United Methodist ministers are normally appointed to their charges in June.
"We have dearly loved the people in Iuka," said Gordon, who began his eighth year with the congregation in June. "This has been the toughest move I've ever made. We're north Mississippians by birth and heritage."
Gordon has served all but four of his 27 years as a Methodist minister in north Mississippi.
The 1700-member Clinton church was established in 1831.
