A spot in the Class 5A girls state championship game is on the line tonight when Tupelo takes on Meridian at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson.
Tupelo's Lady Wave (33-3) defeated Jackson Forest Hill 46-29 in Thursday's quarterfinal, setting up today's 6:30 p.m. semifinal against South 5A champion Meridian.
Tupelo or Meridian will advance to Saturday's 6 p.m. state final against the winner of Thursday's semifinal between Jackson Murrah and Brandon.
Destini Shannon scored 22 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead Tupelo, which outscored Forest Hill 24-11 in the second half to clinch the win.
Katie Hancock added 14 points and Mandy Collins had eight rebounds for Tupelo.
Mooreville improved to 8-0 with more four wins this week: 12-1 over Smithville; 10-5 over Baldwyn, 9-1 Booneville and 14-2 over Mantachie.
In one of the week's top games, Nettleton scored all five of its runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Friday, lifting the Tigers past Houston 5-4. Ladarrius Cole's bases-loaded double cut the margin and Joe Young was hit by a pitch with one out to force the winning run.

Tupelo and Mooreville were unbeaten in the Tupelo Softball Association's Fast-Pitch Classic, with both teams winning three games apiece.
Tupelo's wins were 6-3 over Pontotoc, 5-2 over Hamilton and 5-1 over Saltillo. Mooreville beat Hernando 4-0, Columbus 4-3 and Saltillo 5-0.
Mooreville pitcher Elizabeth Woolven turned in two double-digit strikeout performances last week, fanning 14 against Tishomingo County and 13 during a no-hitter against Saltillo. Shannon's Lindsey Curtis struck out 11 in a 12-2 win over West Point.
