HAMILTON – The Vardaman Rams saw their hopes of a Division 6-1A title come to an end last Tuesday night as Hamilton rolled to an 11-1 win and claimed the division championship with their second win in the series on Thursday.
Vardaman pitcher DC Lester held the Lions to just a run in each of the four innings before their offense clicked with seven in the final two frames.
Lester scattered seven hits, walked four and struck out two. Hunter Griggs went an inning in relief and allowed three hits.
Vardaman’s offense was held in check by Hamilton ace Brady Davis, who allowed just two hits – one to Griggs in the first inning and one to Ty Edmondson in the sixth, who came around to score the Rams’ lone run on a steal of home.
The Lions scored one in the first on a Collin Holman RBI single and another run in the second when Nathan Fast led off with a triple and scored on Sam Robinson’s RBI groundout.
Holman and Jamie Dean Atkins scored runs in the third and fourth innings before the Lions exploded for five in the fifth.
Atkins and Davis each had RBI hits in the fifth, and Holman and Fast also had singles in the frame. Caleb Hall reached on an error that drove in a pair of runs.
Hamilton ended the game with two runs in the sixth after hits by Nathan Fast and Rylan Fast.
