ABERDEEN – An idea sparked from a conversation is causing a buzz at local restaurants as more and more people are playing the Aberdeen Visitors Bureau’s Restaurant BINGO. The game, which lasts throughout June, gives people opportunities to eat local in Aberdeen and earn prizes by doing so.
“People are surprised at how many local restaurants we have in Aberdeen. There are 16 squares with a free space. Kimmel’s Bakery is in transition to its new owner and when we made these cards, we were anxiously awaiting the opening of El Jefe, which is supposed to be opening soon,” said AVB Director Tina Robbins. “We have a wonderful selection and variety and we’re trying to promote eating and shopping local.”
To play, people can pick up Restaurant BINGO cards at any participating Aberdeen restaurant, along with AVB-approved stickers to mark the places they have dined. Four places in a row gets a BINGO and a free item voucher to a participating restaurant.
“You can enjoy your favorite restaurants while winning fabulous prizes. Bring your winning BINGO card to the visitors bureau for verification and rewards,” Robbins said. “Getting a mark from corner to corner gets you an Aberdeen coffee mug or get a card blackout to win an Aberdeen swag bag which includes two Elkin Theatre movie tickets.”
Everyone who gets a BINGO gets a prize, and winners are entered into a weekly drawing for a $20 gift card to a local restaurant of their choosing. Merchants have also pledged to donate door prizes.
“You can go to the Aberdeen Visitors Bureau Facebook page and share our Bingo post to be entered into a drawing for the $20 gift card. You can also post a photo dining at a local restaurant and tag us on Facebook or Instagram for a bonus entry into the drawing,” Robbins said.
