ABERDEEN – As part of National Faith & Blue Weekend, the Aberdeen Police Department will host its Faith and Fun Drive-Thru Fall Fest Oct. 8 from 4 to 6 p.m. Members of the police department will give out treats such as juices, candy bags, popcorn and cupcakes for children ahead of a free movies event at Newberger Park, which begins at 6 p.m.

National Faith & Blue Weekend intends to unify law enforcement agencies with members of the community.

Aberdeen Police Chief Quinell Shumpert said the event aligns with his goals for more community outreach. He also hopes to have a 3-on-3 basketball tournament between the police department and members of the community in the near future.

Sophia Jones of the APD said the fall fest is also aimed to encourage more community policing. She said a city employee will say a prayer to kick off the event.

The Aberdeen Police Department is also participating in the Law Enforcement Torch Run benefiting the Special Olympics Oct. 19 at 8 a.m. or more information, call 369-6454.
