ABERDEEN – As PIXAR movies continually sweep the box office after their big screen releases, the Aberdeen Visitors Bureau is reaching back in the genre’s archives by showing “Monsters, Inc.” for its annual free Movie at The Magnolias event June 6.

“It came out in 2001, so it’s the perfect movie since everyone who just graduated high school grew up with it,” said AVB Director Tina Robbins. “We like to show a throwback movie each summer. We narrowed down the list and polled some of our regular outdoor moviegoers, and this was the winner by popular vote.”

The movie, rated PG, features the voice talents of John Goodman and Billy Crystal as two monsters working at a scare factory.

People are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Gathering at The Magnolias begins at 7:30 p.m., and the movie will begin after dark.

“Make sure you come and bring friends because there are always surprises,” Robbins said. “Shine up your best impersonations because you may have open mic opportunities to portray your favorite characters for a prize.”

The free outdoor movie tradition began in 2011 at Blue Bluff, and it moved to The Magnolias the following year.
