NETTLETON – Volunteers are needed Sept. 25 to help pick up litter for the Nettleton Citywide Cleanup Day. The annual event helps spruce up the city ahead of the Town Creek Festival, which is being held Oct. 2.

Volunteers will meet at the First Baptist Church pavilion at 7:45 p.m. Saturday, with the cleanup beginning at 8 a.m.

People will be divided into groups to clean up in each ward, and members of the Nettleton Board of Aldermen are helping with the cleanup.

The cleanup lasts until 11 a.m., and members of the Nettleton Main Street Association will grill hamburgers and hotdogs for volunteers. The food is being provided by Monroe County District 5 Supervisor Hosea Bogan and Lee County District 5 Supervisor Billy Joe Holland.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation is supplying garbage bags and vests, and gloves and water will also be available for volunteers.

Anyone who cannot make it to the citywide cleanup but would still like to participate is asked to clean up their own yards and neighborhoods.
