WREN – Wren Community Day, being held May 18 beginning at 10 a.m., will feature live music, food, inflatables and a chance for candidates to introduce themselves. The event is sponsored by the Wren RCDC and will be held at the community center, alongside Highway 45.
“We’ll have hamburgers, hotdogs, deserts and drinks for sale and three inflatables for the kids,” said Wren RCDC President Candy Archer.
She said if the weather is bad, however, there won’t be inflatables.
Entertainment will be provided by bluegrass/gospel group Old Time String Band at 10 a.m., and Gennie Dodd and the Starlights, will perform gospel and patriotic music at noon.
Four different church groups will perform throughout the day, and gospel singer Brenda Whitlock will perform at 5 p.m.
Candidates for this year’s county primaries will have the opportunity to introduce themselves at 1 p.m.
“We’ve reached out to the candidates interested about talking to us in District 5, but all are welcome,” Archer said.
She added any nursing homes wishing to bring residents to the Wren Community Day may do so.
The Wren RCDC has grown in participation recently and has done community improvement projects such as work at the community center. During its June 18 meeting, club members will honor first responders. Archer said all area first responders are invited.
