ABERDEEN – A film crew is expected to capture elements of Aberdeen in the coming weeks as part of the upcoming television special, “The Official Best of Mississippi,” which will air in December. The program will air on the Discovery Channel, as well as WLBT in Jackson and WNOL in New Orleans.

Aberdeen will be featured with Vicksburg, Tupelo, Natchez and Columbus. Aberdeen will be featured as the “Best Historic Port City” on the program.

"There will be re-airings in the first quarter and that's when people will start making spring travel plans, which will be perfect timing for our 40th annual Pilgrimage," said Aberdeen Visitors Bureau Director Tina Robbins.

The national Discovery Channel airing is scheduled for 5 a.m. Christmas Day for starters.

Robbins stated re-airings of HGTV's "Hometown Renovation," a series filmed in Aberdeen in 2010, attracted more visitors to Aberdeen, and she expects the town's feature on "The Official Best of Mississippi" to be another strong tourist draw.
