JACKSON – In Class 1, Amory’s boys team, powered by individual wins from Walker Todd in the 100 free and 50 free, finished second overall to Madison St. Joseph, which captured the girls championship, too.
“I had a pretty good swim today,” said Todd, a junior. “Next week I plan to give them a run for their money.”
The boys' 200-medley relay team, which consists of Todd, Brock Balducci, Drew Huffman and Tucker Robbins, placed second and will go into state next weekend as a No. 4 seed.
In the 200-freestyle, Ashlee Parham finished ninth for the girls, while Will Corley finished sixth for the boys.
In the 50-free, Cameron Tubb finished seventh, while Drew Huffman, Sam Wilkerson and Hayden Plunkett all also qualified for the boys.
In the 100-free, Amory got state qualifiers from Parham and Tubb for the girls, and Todd, Balducci, Plunkett and Corley for the boys.
The Amory girls' 200-free relay team, consisting of Parham, Tubb, Pierce and Kailee Bates, placed sixth and will be a No. 7 seed at state, while the boys, consisting of Wilkerson, Corley, Plunkett and Eli Black, picked up a fourth-place finish.
In the 400-free relay, the Amory boys – Balducci, Todd, Huffman and Robbins – finished second while the girls – Parham, Tubb, Pierce and Lauren Alford, placed fifth.
Robbins and Emily Pierce each picked up sixth place finishes in the 100-butterfly, while Robbins finished fifth and Pierce sixth in the 500-free.
Amory also got individual qualifiers from Balducci and Wilkerson in the 100-backstroke and from Huffman in the 100-breaststroke.
