The Amory track team started off its season on Saturday and had several place in the Golden Wave Invitational at Tupelo High School.
The boys’ team placed second overall and had first place finishes in five events. Trendon Gillon placed first in the high jump with a jump of 6’8, while Jacob Cox picked up a first place finish in the shot put.
The boys’ 4X100, 4X200 and 4X400 relay teams all picked up first place finishes. The 4X100 and 4X200 teams consist of Darius Smith, Michael Beeks, Trendon Gillon and Jaylon Moore, while the 4X400 team is Beeks, Moore, Dylan Cooper and Gillon.
Darius Smith placed second in the long jump and fourth in the triple jump. Michael Starks finished fourth in the 1600 meter run.
On the girls’ side, Ashley Stevens placed first in the 300 meter hurdles and second in 100 meter hurdles. Makenzi Sykes placed third in 200 meter dash, and Kym Morrow was second in the long jump. Jayla Spratt was fourth in 300 meter hurdles, and Irelyn French was fourth in the discus.
The 4X400 girls’ relay team of Morrow, Dashunae Fields, Keionna Thompson and Caliah Childs was second and the 4X100 relay team of Stevens, Morrow, Spratt and Fields was third.
Amory competes this Thursday in a meet at New Albany.
