The Amory Lady Panthers got in some early summer soccer action on Wednesday, competing in the ICC Tournament.
The Panthers’ portion of the tournament, which was scheduled for Thursday, was rained out.
Amory was leading Tishomingo County 4-0 when the final game of the day was called for rain and lightning. The Lady Panthers fell 4-2 to Lewisburg and 3-0 to Itawamba AHS earlier in the tournament.
Against Tish County, Chloe Tomlin put in a pair of goals, while Alexy Smith and Christi Carol Smith had a goal each. Alexy Smith, Emma Gore and Ellie Baker all had assists in that game.
Tomlin and Christi Carol Smith scored a goal each against Lewisburg, while Gore had an assist.
Amory coach Nathan Clayton was impressed with the potential of his young team, which was also missing seniors starting forward Morgan Mitchell and goalkeeper Connor Stevens.
“I thought we moved into space better against Lewisburg than we did in the first game against Itawamba. Campbell Erikson made several good saves in the goal during the day,” Clayton said. “Our back line did well in one versus one situations, and we played several different girls back there. Christi Carol Smith, a seventh-grader, scored twice in her first action as a Lady Panther, so she had a good day. We have got a lot of young girls that have a lot of potential.”
