An electric car charger sits in the parking lot of the Community Development Foundation in Tupelo. The charger is one of only a handful throughout the city, and one of only 266 in the entire state. Lawmakers may change that, however, with proposed legislation that would dole out as much as $30 million in tax credits to companies that build charging stations.

This aerial photograph shows the Cooper Tire manufacturing plant in Tupelo from above. Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. on Monday announced it was acquiring the Ohio-based company, including its Northeast Mississippi plant, for $2.8 billion. The deal is not expected to affect manufacturing operations.
