Marquel Conner, Unit Director for the Boys & Girls Club of New Albany, was recently named the Full Time Professional of the Year for the Boys & Girls Club in Mississippi.
Conner, who has served as director of the New Albany Clubhouse for nearly five years, received the honor during an awards banquet at the All Staff training conference held in Tupelo this year. This is the third time Conner has received this award during his tenure in New Albany.
“Receiving the honor this year felt a little different,” Conner said. “This has been a challenging year, but it never stopped us from serving and giving our members our all on a daily basis. Hard work does pay off, but it’s more about being an example to our young men and women. It’s all about them. The work that we do, the extracurricular activities we give and daily motivation, has to be something they willingly accept. I’m grateful of my work team and all that they contribute. I like to think of it this way – the flower doesn’t blossom overnight, but the beauty is in seeing it grow daily into its most beautiful form. I am beyond grateful to God and his many blessings he has bestowed upon our Boys & Girls Club of New Albany.”
The award is based on club and community involvement, club member performance academically and socially, along with consistent average daily attendance. The winner is chosen by submission of application by his supervisor and is judged by the State All Staff Committee. There are 13 organizations and more than 100 clubs in the state.
The daily average attendance for the New Albany Clubhouse this year is 96.
