The Union County Schools’ Board of Trustees will hold a public hearing at 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 24 to review the district’s budget for the 2019-2020 school year.

For the second year in a row, the board will not be seeking an increase in ad valorem taxes from the Union County Board of Supervisors.

According to the school district, the amount of revenue it expects to obtain through ad valorem taxes during the next fiscal year is projected to be $4,819,096, or 18 percent of its proposed $26,835,162 budget. The district says it expects the millage rate to be 53.54, compared to 54.79 for the current fiscal year.

The public is invited to attend the meeting.

During the meeting, the board also approved the purchase of 4.66 acres of land from Tom Haynes, located at 1374 County Road 101, directly adjacent to Ingomar School.

The board also approved an amendment to board policy on the topic of Student Health Services/Medicines to allow school personnel to dispense over the counter medicine, as well as prescribed medicine, with signed parental consent. Two other amendments to board policy related to credit recovery program and cyber security were also approved.

The board also renewed several contracts between the school district and Millcreek of Pontotoc; Rosemont Consulting for Psychometric Testing Services; Emily Johnson of Behavior, Attention, and Development Disabilities Consultants, LLC for services; King Therapies, LLC for emotional and behavioral therapy services; Kali J. Buchanan for psychoeducational assessment services; Memphis Oral School for the Deaf for services for the hearing impaired; and Retta Hardy Psychometric Testing Services.

The board also renewed the housing lease agreement with Kevin Walton regarding property at 1536 Highway 9 South, Blue Springs.

The school board also approved the following personnel items:

• Approved the following teachers and bus drivers for Literacy Camp – Kelly Robbins, Leslie Gaines, Shenna Murphy, Jessica Waits, Abby Cook, Julie McCullough, substitute teacher, and Leslie Gaines, bus driver.  Each teacher will work four hours per day from June 3-7, June 10-14 and June 17-21 for $25 per hour. Bus drivers will work same days for $40 per day.

• Employed Zane Treadaway as bus driver for Pre-K Boot Camp. He will drive for 10 days beginning June 3 and ending June 14 at $40 per day.

• Accepted resignation from Kay Rakestraw as bus driver and Vo-tech bus driver due to retirement effective at the end of the 2018-2019 school year.

• Approved Marlee May as certified teacher for the 2019-2020 school year at East Union.

• Accepted resignation of Josh Blythe as Junior High Head Girls Basketball coach at East Union effective May 24, 2019.

• Accepted resignation of Heidi Brock as Archery Coach at East Union effective the end of the 2018-2019 school year.

• Accepted resignation of Ashley Harrelson as teachers assistant at Ingomar effective the end of the 2018-2019 school year.

• Approved Alyssa Pannell as assistant teacher at Ingomar for the 2019-2020 school year.

• Accepted resignation from Steven Adams as head cross country coach at Ingomar effective the end of the 2018-2019 school year.

• Accepted resignation from Heather Meadows as co-sponsor of the yearbook at Ingomar effective the end of the 2018-2019 school year.

• Approved Amy Crestman as 7th grade math teacher at Ingomar and co-yearbook sponsor for the 2019-2020 school year.

• Approved Ashley Robbins as assistant teacher at Ingomar for the 2019-2020 school year.

• Accepted resignation of Michael Shayne Adams as teacher and coach at Myrtle effective May 24, 2019.

• Approved Michael Kelly as teacher, assistant high school boys basketball and assistant high school football coach at Myrtle for the 2019-2020 school year.

• Accepted resignation of Molly Bryan as certified teacher from Myrtle effective May 24, 2019.

• Approved Tera Streich as teacher assistant at Myrtle for the 2019-2020 school year.

• Accepted resignation from Savannah Skelton as 4th grade ELA teacher at Myrtle effective May 24, 2019.

• Accepted resignation from Justin Hollis as assistant principal and football coach at Myrtle effective June 30, 2019.

• Approved Jeremy Smithey as head high school football coach at Myrtle for the 2019-2020 school year.

• Approved Erin Verrell as an English teacher at Myrtle for the 2019-2020 school year.

• Approved Brooke Gordon as assistant Volleyball coach at Myrtle for the 2019-2020 school year.
