Our girls beach trip 2019 is in the books and as usual we had a great time.
We began this tradition five years ago. My sister and I along with our daughters, daughter-in-law’s, friends and whoever else wanted to go would take off for a four day trip to the beach.
The first trip was five women and two babies. The group has grown and I am not sure if we can call it a girls trip anymore. We have added one little boy who is six and one two months little boy.
This year we had our original five women, one teenager and five children under the age of seven. I’m not sure how this happened, but the children we take outnumber the adults we have.
Everywhere we went, each adult had the hand of at least one child to keep them all in tow.
With this many children, we rented a house with a pool in the backyard. It was a beautiful house, one block from the beach and the pool was perfect for the kids and the big kids too.
I wrote in my column a few weeks ago that I broke my foot. That happened on a Wednesday and on Thursday afternoon of that same week on of the ladies going with us broke her ankle. The teenager we took had broke her ankle and had gotten out of the cast but was in a boot.
When I broke my foot I told my doctor that I was going to the beach in two weeks and he told me I was going to the beach in a boot.
We looked pretty strange with a group going out on the beach with three people in a boot. We made the best of it.
We would wear the boot out to the beach, get on our beach chair, take of the boot and enjoy the day.
We could even sit on the edge of the pool, take of the boot and slide into the pool.
Last year we had shirts made that said “Beach Crew”. We should have had shirts made this year with “Cripple Crew” on them.
A few broken bones can’t stop a great vacation and good time with a group of people you love.
