A free household hazardous waste collection day will be held this Saturday, April 13, at the MSU Agricenter at Verona from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
A limited hazardous waste collection will be held in New Albany that same day from 7 a.m. to noon.
In New Albany, residents may take paint and old electronics only to the library parking lot where city employees will be on hand to assist loading the material in trucks.
The waste items collected here will be taken to the collection site in Verona.
Union County residents may take a variety of household hazardous waste items directly to Verona if they wish.
Fluids, chemicals, glues, some poisons, propane tanks, up to 25 tires, appliances, old prescriptions, fluorescent bulbs, various metals and other items will be accepted.
Items that will not be accepted include sofas, roofing shingles, household trash, biological or infections materials, explosives, radioactive materials or unknown substances.

The collection day is sponsored by Three Rivers Solid Waste Management Authority, Three Rivers Planning and Development District, Mississippi State University Extension Service, Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, Lee County and Waste Collections. A similar day was held in Oxford this past Saturday with the City of Oxford and Lafayette County as co-sponsors.
