We are in the calm before the storm scenario of sorts for the next few weeks as the prep sports scene has taken a bit of a vacation. Since there are no games, practice games, scrimmages, etc., we thought it might be a good time to take a look back at sports in photos from 2018.
We may even venture into years previous to that and look back in five-year increments to see what happened 5, 10, 15 years and beyond. Should we go that route, we will have to take photos of pages in our bound volumes for use.
Photos are no longer available here in our office from 10 years and beyond, in fact not a whole lot remains from five years ago save for the fact that we can perhaps get a few of them off our server.
Anyway, I just thought this would be a good time to go back in time and catch up with a few "oldie but goodie" pictures that will allow some of our readers the opportunity to reminisce.
This would also be a good opportunity for me to follow Lynn West's lead from July 3 and mention the prospect of us publishing a Union County pictorial and we can use feedback from our readers on that.
We have high hopes and good intentions of maybe collecting photos and dropping them on the printed page in magazine form sometime during this third quarter of the year.
We would like to have old sports photos if any of you can help and we welcome non-sports photos as well. Anything prior to the year 2000 is considered old by most teens nowadays, so there's your floor, start in the year 1999 and go backward by calendar year if you need a measuring stick.
We can use any photo that relates to anything Union County or New Albany, so contact us and let us know if you are interested in this project and also if you can help us out with photos. We are a team and we want to partner with our readers and residents of Union County to bring this all about.
In the meantime, I will get us started with the fall of 2018 for this issue of the New Albany Gazette as we marked the beginning of the end of slowpitch softball in the county schools and saw Myrtle play their first-ever varsity football game plus the first meeting in history between East Union and Myrtle on the football gridiron. Lots of things happened in August 2018.
Hope you enjoy this week's look back in sports!
