The Urchins and Lady Urchins had its final run before the state championships this weekend, hosting the Region 1-2A meet last Saturday at BNA Bank Park.
The Urchins took second in the boys’ meet, 11 points behind division champion Potts Camp. Jordan Salmon was the top finisher for the Urchins, finishing fourth overall with a time of 19:25. Luis Ojeda of Hickory Flat finished first at 18:40.
Four East Union runners made the all-division team, finishing in the top 14. After Salmon, Zach Rowan finished sixth, Brett Rakestraw 10th and Cody Bo Dillard finished in 12th.
East Union’s Tray Davis, Joey Pace, Hunter Nobles and Christian McClellen rounded out the top 20 in the race.
Potts Camp won the division title with 39 total team points, followed by East Union with 50, Hickory Flat with 60 and New Site with 98 points.
The girls’ title went to New Site, which finished with 38 team points.
Ally Ciscowski as the top finisher for East Union in eight place with a time of 18:26. Also making all-division in the top 14 were Emily Bruce in the 12th, Katie Rowan in 13th and Autumn Moore in 14th.
Hickory Flat had four runners finish in the top 14, led by Gracie Pipkin in second with a time of 16:58. New Site’s Madison Pharr was the top female finisher with a time of 16:52.
The Lady Rebels finished second as a team with 40 points, followed by East Union with 62 points and Potts Camp with 93 points.
The 2012 state championships will be held this Saturday, beginning with the 3A girls race at 10 a.m.
East Union and the 2A girls will run at 11 a.m., followed by 2A boys at 11:30 a.m. The 1A girls race will be held at 12 p.m., followed by the 1A boys race at 12:30 p.m. The final races of the day will be in 4A, beginning with the girls at 4 p.m. and the boys following that at 4:30 p.m.
