Glenn Davis, 75

David Glenn Davis, 75, of Myrtle, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County in New Albany. He was born Nov. 29, 1933, in Lee County to Dan Davis and Verdie Oswalt Davis. He was a retired engineer, working at Stratford for many years. He was a Baptist and a member of Jericho Baptist Church. He loved hunting, fishing and telling tales with his buddies.

Services were at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2008, at United Funeral Service Chapel with Bro. Terry Rodgers officiating. Interment was in Beulah Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra B. Davis of Myrtle; his first wife, Marie Haynie of New Albany; two daughters, Marcia D. Smithey (Paul) of Blue Springs and Marla Kay Davis of New Albany; two sons, Dan Davis (Audrey) and Josh Davis, both of Myrtle; two grandchildren, Hunter Davis of Myrtle and Amy S. Michael (Bobby) of Tupelo; and one great-grandchild, Bo Michael of Tupelo.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Honorary pallbearers were Sammy Chism, David Yarbrough, Eddie Rodgers, Gary Floyd, Wade Chism and Bernice Floyd.

Nancy Sanford, 88

Nancy Floyd Sanford, 88, of New Albany, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County in New Albany. She was born Jan. 7, 1921, in Union County to James and Bitha Medlin Floyd. She was a member of Keownville Baptist Church. She was retired from AT&T in Montgomery, Ill., with 30 years of service.

Services were at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, at United Funeral Service Chapel with Bro. Jerry Bishop officiating. Interment was in Keownville Cemetery.  United Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Judi Dye (Clark) of Keownville and Marilyn Stach of Pontotoc; two sons, Earl Sanford (Beverly) of Murray, Ky., and Robert Sanford (Wanda) of Guntown; two sisters, Annie Belle Coker of Ellistown and Willie Pearl Chism of Keownville; two brothers, Travis Floyd of New Albany and the Rev. Bill Floyd of Virginia; 11 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle B. Sanford; her parents; a sister, Vera Mae Dye; and a brother, Clifton Floyd.

Pallbearers were Bill Crumpton, Jimmy Crumpton, John Stach, Shane Sanford, Ricky Chism and Ben Holmes.

Eunice Robbins, 87

Eunice O. Robbins, 87, of Aurora, Ill., formerly of Ripley, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora.  She was born on April 12, 1921 in Ripley, MS, to the late Clovis and Martha (Bartlett) Chapman.

Services were at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment was in Old Danville Cemetery in Rienzi, MS.

She is survived by her two sons, Bobby Joe Robbins and Neal Robbins; three daughters, Lee Goblet “Ms. Lee”, Kathy Raines and Clara Raines; one adopted son by heart, Brad Kirk; nine grandchildren, Jimmy Knotts, Linda Knotts, Sherry Pounds-Raines, Charlie Martin, Patty Martin, Debbie Shamblin, Dale Schultz Jr., Spencer Robbins and Teresa Cox; fifteen great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Henry and Bobby Chapman and one sister, Marjorie Martin as well as many nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her two husbands, James Martin and Joseph Robbins; son, Charles Martin; grandson, J.C. Knotts Jr.; granddaughter, Rhonda Raines; sons-in-law, J.C. Knotts Sr. and Daniel Raines; sisters, Ruby Bell, Dovie Gater and Elwauda Tapp and two brothers, Randolph and Edward Chapman.

James Bolen, 69

James T. "Bud" Bolen, 69, went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, January 10, 2009 at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo.

He was born February 19, 1939 to the late Charles T. and Vernie Berry Bolen in Springville, MS. He was a retired route salesman for Wonder and Colonial Bread, and veteran of the Army.

Funeral services were 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in Black Jack Cemetery. Mr. Ron Bartlett and Bishop John Tait officiated. Wells Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

James Reed, 82

James Turner Reed, 82, died Saturday, January 10, 2009, at his residence in Sardis.

He was born September 26, 1926 to Turner Reed and Flossie Reed Smith in Crenshaw (Panola County), Mississippi. He was a retired construction worker. He was a member of Mt. Level MB Church where he was a trustee. He loved singing and was known for his baritone voice, taking care of the sick, traveling, and his family. He was the widower of Mattie Morgan Reed. He was known by the name “Big Daddy.”

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Mt. Level MB Church. Rev. Jessie Frison will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Level Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Sardis is in charge of the arrangements.

He is survived by six daughters – Kathleen Gardner of East Moline, Il., Deborah (Joe) Hibbler, Barbara (Rev. Willie) Frost, Vivian Burdette, all of Sardis; Valarie (Cleveland) Johnson of Como, and Pamela (Al) Stevenson of Memphis; five sons – John Barksdale of Batesville; Jimmy Caldwell of Milwaukee, Wi., Harold (Evenlyn) Reed of East Moine, Il., Melvin Reed of Sardis, and Minister James Anthony Anderson of New Albany; 26 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, four sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law.

Visitation will be Friday, January 16, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with family present from 5-8 p.m. all at the funeral home.
