Jeremy Smithey

Jeremy Smithey takes over Myrtle’s football program after serving as an assistant coach for three years.

Jeremy Smithey was hired as head coach for the Myrtle football program by the Union County school board on Monday.

Smithey replaces Justin Hollis who started the Hawk football program. Hollis recently accepted an administrative position with Nettleton as high school principal.

Smithey has been a member of the Myrtle staff for three seasons, working as an assistant coach under Hollis.

Smithey had previously served as an assistant coach at East Union prior to going to Myrtle.

Myrtle will begin their first season of division play in 1A North after competing as an independent in 2018 and finishing with a 7-1 record. The Hawks return the majority of their starters from the previous year.

More on Smithey's hiring in the June 12 New Albany Gazette.
