SALTILLO - The Epic Urchins of East Union ran to a fourth place finish recently at the Saltillo Invitational cross country meet. The Urchins finished the day with 137 points. East Union, Myrtle and West Union all ran in the 1A-3A division.
Gabe Rakestraw was the first of three Urchins to place in the top 25 as he came in 17th in a time of 18:59.00. Teammates John Evins and Noah Johnson placed 21st and 24th with times of 19:11.80 and 19:25.90. Kole Jackson also made the top 50 runners with his 42nd place finish in 20:42.40.
The remaining top seven runners for East Union were Chance McLellen (21:15.10), Keith Goolsby (21:44.20) and Jeremy Rakestraw (22:39.80).
West Union and Myrtle top performers
West Union had a one runner in the top 20 as Brodie Moore crossed the line in 20th (19:06.60) while teammate Joe Quay (Hammer) Willard placed 33rd with a time of 20:11.60. Another Eagle runner, Adam Galloway, placed 40th with his time of 20:35.40.
Myrtle's top finisher was Hunter Page in 37th with his time of 20:20.40. Will Greer placed 49th in a time of 21:05.80 and McKinley Lindsay was 58th with his time of 21:43.60.
East Union and Myrtle girls place sixth and ninth
East Union's Lady Urchins and Myrtle's Lady Hawks ran to sixth and ninth place finishes at the Saltillo meet. East Union had a total of 175 while Myrtle finished with 208 points.
Sunshine Fulgham was the top runner for East Union, placing 17th in a time of 22:25.70 and Karley Conwill was right behind her in 18th with a time of 22:32.70.
The other top runners for the Lady Urchins included Kirsten Hitt in 30th (23:44.60), Briley Lesley was 65th (26:41.20) and Daisy Johnson was 67th (27:01.70).
Myrtle was led by the duo of Maggie Moody (23:54.60) and Aubrey Henderson (24:14.40) as they placed 35th and and 36th.
The next three runners for Myrtle included Lexie Senn in 40th (24:48.60), Dream Carnell was 61st (26:09.20) and Victoria Mejia placed 63rd (26:18.90).
Carwyle sisters lead West Union
West Union had top 50 finishes by the Carwyle sisters as Emma was 44th and Anna finished 49th. Emma ran the course in 25:00.70 while Anna turned in a time of 25:33.70.
New Albany competes in 4A-6A
New Albany ran against some stiff competition in the 4A-6A division on Saturday.
Dawson Boyd was the top runner for the boys who placed 17th in the team competition. Boyd placed 49th with his time of 18:14.20.
Other top Bulldog runners and their times were Isaac Vega (21:07.70), Collin Paul (21:16.70), Joshua Paul (21:51.20) and Eric Flores (23:07.40).
Abby Laney led the Lady Bulldogs with her 108th place finish in a time of 26:43.70.
Other top New Albany runners and their times were Ella Tyer (28:06.10), Lauren Hobson (30:13.10), Katie Favela (30:19.10) and Gina Grace Lesley (30:23.60).
