HED: Edens brings home third
Barrett Edens, a sophomore at Amory High School, participated in the 11th annual Exxon-BFI Future Tour Champions golf tournament at the Greenville Golf & Country Club. The event brought in 265 golfers to compete in the two-day tournament.
In golf circles, the tournament is known as one of the biggest American Junior Golfers Association tournaments in the Southeast and attracts talented young golfers from several states, Canada and even South Africa. The event bring over 2,000 people to Greenville for three days and about $1 million to the local economy.
Barrett shot a 77 the first day and a 70 the second day making his two day total a 147, which earned him 3rd place as well as an exemption to play in other high-profile tournaments. One of them, the Teens on the Green tournament in Atlanta in late August, will bring in young golfers from 60 countries.
The sophomore, a member of the Amory High School Golf Team, is also a member of the Mississippi Junior Golf Association and plays in tournaments each week at different courses in the state to earn a spot on the Mississippi Cup Team.
