Car slams into Burger King
By Sandi Pullen
A red Pontiac Grand Prix slammed into Burger King restaurant at Crosstown on Tuesday night, causing damage to a wall.
"It tore up half the side of the building," said Elbert Williams, a general manager at the restaurant. "There were people in the store at the time."
No one was injured, Williams said.
Around 9:40 p.m., a car driven by a female jumped a sidewalk and rammed into the restaurant, according to police reports, and the car then left the scene. Police did not disclose the name of the driver.
"About 10 minutes later, the owner of the car (who had not been driving) came back to the store and said that he'd left to get his insurance card," said Tupelo Police Capt. Jackie Clayton.
The owner of the car may be a juvenile, Clayton said, so the name was not released.
According to the report, the manager was in the restaurant when the incident occurred, and saw the car leave.
No ambulances were called to the scene, Clayton said.
According to the report, charges are pending.
