TUPELO – BancorpSouth officials said it will be another day before all charges are refunded, wrapping up a situation in which a processing error caused some debit card transactions to be posted twice to customers’ accounts.
The bank on Tuesday alerted its customers that an internal error had caused debit card transactions without PIN entry to be charged twice Monday night. It is unclear how many customers were affected.
BancorpSouth on Tuesday night issued refunds to the checking accounts of customers who were charged twice, according to Randy Burchfield, the bank’s director of corporate marketing.
The bank said it will refund or cancel any charges, such as overdraft fees or cash advance charges, caused by the double-posting error.
Some of the charges on linked accounts, such as credit cards or equity credit lines, were expected to be cleared up when transactions posted Wednesday night, Burchfield said.
The rest of the charges should be cleared up tonight, he said.
“We feel like things are in pretty good order,” Burchfield said.”
BancorpSouth advised customers with questions to call the bank’s hotline at (888) 797-7711.
