A paint-your-own pottery store has opened in Tupelo.

The business, called Wet Paint Paint Your Own Pottery Studio & Art Gallery, is next to Oreck Vacuums and the former location of Books-a-Million. It opened a week ago.

Julia Crawford owns the business. She previously worked at the Cotton Bolt in Tupelo and has an art degree.

Wet Paint has unfinished pottery available for customers to paint. The pottery prices start at $1.50 for snowman Christmas ornaments. Other ready-to-paint items include nightlights, piggy banks, bowls, plates, picture frames, mugs and pet water bowls. The prices include paint, cleanup and firing of the pottery.

Crawford provides tables and painting supplies. She has two kilns to fire the items after they are painted.

Crawford also has a do-it-yourself mosaic area where customers can create mosiacs from a selection of colorful chips of glass.

The business also has a party room. Kids are welcome, Crawford said. No need to call ahead unless you want to book the party room, she said.

Wet Paint is Tupelo's second do-it-yourself art business.

The Art Shack opened in February on West Jackson Street and offers paint-your-own canvas events.

Barbara Eaton, a retired art teacher, is the owner.

Painting at The Art Shack focuses on fun and education, Eatson said. Eaton offers art classes for children and adults.

Plus, she has “sip & stroke” classes at least monthly where she teaches participants how to paint a specific image a step at a time. For example, if the class is painting Santa, Eaton will paint a line and then the class will copy. She'll keep doing this until the painting is finished.

Prices are $25 per adult for the sip & stroke parties. Family night, it's $35 for two people to do a canvas each.

Eaton’s business also is available for parties.
