BOONEVILLE - After a 68-year-old man died from a savage June assault, the suspect is now charged with second degree murder.

Jeremy Chance Held, 28, was initially charged with aggravated assault and held on a $50,000 bond. When the victim died over the Fourth of July holidays, the charges were upgraded. During a Monday morning hearing, Justice Court Judge Angela Pounds set bond at $500,000 on the new charges.

Prentiss County deputy sheriffs responded to a disturbance call at a County Road 1041 Thrasher residence on the evening of June 26. The officers found Held inside the residence and covered in blood. When the deputies checked the rest of the house, they found an unresponsive adult male, Ervin Fisher, also covered in blood.

Prentiss County Sheriff Randy Tolar said neither man is originally from Prentiss County. Fisher is from Colbert County, Alabama, and Held is from Florida.
