STARKVILLE - A call about someone trying to break into cars led to a Coahoma County man being charged with multiple counts of armed robbery.

The Starkville Police Department was called to the Block Townhomes June 23 at 3 a.m. about a man trying to open car doors in the parking lot. When officers arrived at the South Montgomery Street complex, the suspect tried to run but was captured at an adjacent apartment complex.

Corey Lewis, 24, of Clarksdale, was initially charged with two counts of auto burglary. After further investigation, Lewis was also charged with two counts of armed robbery.

The first incident happened on May 19 at Ruby’s Beer and Tobacco at 630 Highway 12 East. Surveillance video of this incident showed a suspect forcing his way in, jumping the counter and stealing cash and merchandise. The second incident was June 18 behind Dollar General at 616 Highway 12 East. Lewis allegedly robbed the driver of a delivery truck parked behind the shopping center.
