CORINTH - Corinth National Cemetery will host a wreath-laying ceremony conducted by Civil Air Patrol units and supporting groups at 11 a.m. today.
Wreaths Across America is a national patriotic initiative bringing wreaths to more than 200 veterans cemeteries and monuments in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.
The ceremonies are coordinated to take place simultaneously at noon Arlington time. More than 160 wreaths will be placed in Corinth.
The campaign sprang from a patriotic tradition at Worcester Wreath Co. of Harrington, Maine, which began donating wreaths for veterans' graves at Arlington National Cemetery 15 years ago. This is the second year that remembrance wreaths will be placed on sites nationwide.
Worcester Wreath Co. and CAP encourage those who cannot participate in Wreaths Across America program to observe a moment of silence Dec. 15 in conjunction with the nationwide observances.
"When people hear about what we do at Arlington, I am often asked if I am a veteran. I am not. But I have made it my business to never forget," said Morrill Worcester, president of Worcester Wreath Co.
