TUPELO • An apparent domestic situation Wednesday night led to shots being fired in west Tupelo.

The spat between the former couple ended with both the 45-year-old New Albany woman and the 33-year-old Aberdeen man arrested on simple domestic violence charges. Both remained in the Lee County Jail Thursday afternoon.

Tupelo police responded around 6:30 p.m. June 16 to the area of West Main Street and Coley Road for a possible shots fired call.

Police spokesman Capt. Chuck McDougald said the preliminary investigation indicates that a domestic situation led to a shooting incident and two suspects were detained.

“No shooting victims were located and no suspects are outstanding at this time,” McDougald said.

After the shots were fired, the woman fled the scene and called 911. She told responding deputies that she and her ex-boyfriend got into an altercation and he hot at her going down the road inside the city limits.

She wanted deputies to escort her to Drive 984 residence in the Bissell community to gather her belongings. Instead, she was turned over to the Tupelo police.
