BYHALIA – A Byhalia man suspected in the Friday killing of a Byhalia woman at her residence was arrested in Chickasaw County on Saturday.
Chester Dallas Brents, 65, is facing murder charges, according to Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson.
Cathy Mills, of 54 River Ridge Circle in Byhalia, was shot one time in the chest following a verbal and physical altercation with Brents at her home, Dickerson said.
The Marshall County sheriff said Brents had been staying with Mills off and on for some time.
Mills’ mother was at the house at the time of the altercation and shooting and called police at approximately 3 p.m. Friday.
Mills was pronounced dead upon the arrival of law enforcement officials to the house.
Brents fled the scene of the crime in Mills’ gold 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix. Law enforcement searched for him throughout the day on Saturday. He was later arrested by the Chickasaw County Sheriff's Department and was transported to Marshall County jail, Dickerson said. Because of the holiday weekend, his arraignment likely will be on Tuesday morning.
Dickerson said Brents had no previous criminal history, at least with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.
“I know the guy well, and as far as I know he doesn’t have any criminal background,” the sheriff said. “I was shocked to hear it myself.”
